This section takes charge in acquiring and organizing the library’s book collections, maintains the updating of the library’s on-line database and the preservation of reading materials. This section is very vital towards library service because it prepares the reading materials particularly books from selection and acquisition, and cataloging and classification before it is given to the Reference Service and the other branch libraries of the four (4) districts of Quezon City. Binding and preservation of books is also done in this section including weeding of books. To further upgrade the services of the Quezon City Public Library (QCPL), together with The National Library (TNL), the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) was introduced under this section for faster retrieval of data and information.
The Technical Services Section aims to perform the following objectives:
- To select and acquire library materials, particularly books whether through purchases or donations/solicitations.
- To organize library book collections through cataloging and classification.
- To produce and maintain necessary bibliographic file such as the card catalog and shelf-list file.
- To preserve the reading materials and other book collections for further library use.
- To monitor listings and actual display of book collections that are used in the library.
- To discard or dispose those items from the collection that appears to be obsolete, dirty or too worn out for use and to ensure that it is properly reflected in the inventory of books.
- To give faster information retrieval through the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).
